When an insurance company tells you that your car is totaled, if you don’t have a lawyer, you’re going to have to do some research yourself and make sure that you’re getting the fair value for your vehicle. Kelley Blue Book is a very good source. If you have access to the internet, which almost everybody does, just do a search for how to value a used car. You’re going to get a whole bunch of different sources of information. Use those sources of information. Tell the insurance company what you’re looking at, why you’re valuing your vehicle the way you are and ask them how they’re coming up with the number that they’re coming up with. If you do those things, hopefully the two of you can come together, come to an agreement without any law suits. You can get it resolved and move on with your life.
