You’ve been in an accident or somebody you know has been in an accident and the insurance company for the other side wants you to give a statement. Do you have to give them a statement? No, you absolutely don’t have to give them a statement. Should you give them a statement? Maybe, maybe not but one thing I can tell you for sure, when they talk to you and they ask you for a statement they’re going to ask to record it, don’t let them record it. There’s no reason to let them record it. If you decide you’re going to give them a statement then you can talk with them, let them ask questions, you answer the ones that you’re comfortable answering if you think it’s a good idea, but don’t let them record it. There’s no reason to let them record it and a whole bunch of legal reasons not to.
