I was a passenger in a car driven by a drunk driver and I was injured when they crashed. Can I sue that person?

More than once I’ve represented people who were passengers in a car that was being driven by somebody who was drunk, and the person who was driving drunk wrecked the car. They injured the passenger and the question I always get upfront is, “Well, I was in a car, I was a passenger. Does that mean that I have no rights here?” No, it doesn’t mean that. If you were a passenger in that car being driven by somebody who was drunk, and they caused an accident that hurt you, you absolutely have a right to recover for your injuries. It gets complicated exactly how much and all those sorts of things but the short answer and the real answer is, yes, you’ve got rights.
