Does a business owner have a duty to screen prospective employees and perform a criminal background search?

If a business is going to give its employees access to somebody else’s private space, like a hotel, its employees are going to have access to the rooms that its guests are in. They need to really screen those employees to make sure that there’s not a criminal history, a violent history, with any of those people, because they could be very dangerous, because they’ve got access to where people are sleeping. Same with businesses that send their employees into people’s homes. Air conditioning repair companies, roof repair companies, any business that’s sending a technician into somebody’s home needs to do a very, very thorough background check on those employees, because why? They’re going to have access to people’s homes, and if they have a history of violence, they absolutely could be a threat to somebody’s safety.
